Providing independent, external perspectives

As a Non-Executive Director, I draw on 25+ years  of experience of business, leadership, customer-led innovation, corporate governance, technology  and communications.  I am independent and have an acute awareness of the needs and perspectives of customers, investors, staff, suppliers, media and other stakeholders.

I am a member of the Governing Body (the equivalent of a board) of Technological University Dublin, Ireland’s first technological university and the result of a merger between the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), IT Blanchardstown and IT Tallaght. I am also a member of the Governing Body’s Audit and Risk Committee.

I have also served as a Non-Executive Director of the parent company of Carraig Donn, a long-established family business which has retail and manufacturing interests. Carraig Donn has over 40 stores in Ireland, selling fashion, jewellery and knitwear, as well as a rapidly growing eCommerce business. It also owns Aran Woollen Mills, Ireland’s largest manufacturer of Aran sweaters with a global customer base.

From 2-13 to 2019, I served as Non-Executive Director of the Road Safety Authority, the State body with responsibility for education, licensing, testing and other functions and which is also the contracting body for significant outsourced public service contracts.  I was a member of the board’s Audit and Risk Committee and chaired the Governance Committee.

I have also served on the boards of:

• Business in the Community which helps businesses to manage and measure CSR
• ASH Ireland, which successfully championed the introduction of the workplace smoking ban
• Chambers Ireland, Ireland’s largest business network.

My board experience began in 1989 as a co-founder and shareholder of The Sunday Business Post newspaper, or the Business Post as it’s now called.. I served as an Executive Director and Company Secretary for 11 years, a period which straddled a series of corporate restructurings, three private equity-raising rounds and ultimately the sale of the company to a multinational PLC.

Chartered Director

A member of the Institute of Directors, I have completed the Chartered Director programme and was awarded  both the Diploma and Certificate in Company Direction in 2015.  I was awarded Chartered Director status in 2016.
